I awoke early, 4 a.m., whilst everything was still dark,I took down the tent and made my way towards Route 1 going to Richmond and onto Florida.
I was cycling zealously until a McDonalds stopped me in my tracks. I treated myself to a big breakfast seeing as the day before my breakfast lunch and supper had only consisted of bananas. Admittedly, I had had lost my appetite for food and boy do I like food, however I had consumed 6 liters of water that day. The good thing about McDonalds is that they offer free internet, so I caught up on the this blog amongst other things. Two hours later I was on my way again heading for Route 1 but at this stage my buttocks were beginning to take some punishment so I decided to find a cycling shop. I cycled around for about 8 miles only to find there was no shop anywhere in that area.
The closest shop was about 12 miles away in Lorton, so off I went. I decided to rather find a place to camp and visit the shop in the morning. Eventually I camped in the garden of a neat beautiful modern evangelical church. I was exhausted, one must bare in mind that I hadn't cycled since my school days, 35 years ago. After soaping myself down, washing my clothes I went into noddy land.
The inner town of Lorton is very quaint, small, comfortable and affluent, whilst the areas along Route 1 give an impression of poverty and unease.
