Thought for the day on friendship
In todays times when everything seems to be internet based with virtual relationships on the computer, internet shopping, internet business, we seem to be less able to manage real face to face relationships. When one is unhappy with someone we tend to write an email rather than meeting up with the person concerned and thrashing out our differences. We tend to become more withdrawn from face to face interaction. There appears to be a greater need for true friendship.
I will never forget the heart wrenching moment in the film " Kite Flyer" when two boys grew up together in Kabul, the one boy was the son of the master of the house, the other boy the servants son. They grew up to be best of friends, to cut a long story short the masters son kicked a ball through the window and blamed the servant's son for it, the touching moment is when the master of the house asked the servants child if he did it, rather than get his friend into trouble he admitted to it. Even though his friend was unfaithful he remained faithful. The result was that his parents were fired and they were told to leave the house. How many of us can say we have friends that are faithful despite our unfaithfulness? The Holy Spirit is that type of friend and He sticks closer than a brother. Whilst others will fail you and falter, He will never fail you. God is still faithful even when we are unfaithful.
Proverbs 18 v 24 :A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
John 15 v 15 : “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you."
