The morning was sunny as we packed our tents to leave Rodanthe. Addison made tracks whilst Jack,Laurie and myself took our time. The three of us had coffee across the road where Jack kindly took a pic of me. Jack and Laurie went on their way and I sat on the internet. A young blonde girl about 24 years of age entered the coffee shop, she was wearing her cycling gear, so I asked where she was riding to? She said Key West. I realised she was due to meet Addison on Ocracoke Island. We road together some of the way, and then she left me eating dust.
I had to call my darling,Karen, which was a short 5 minute call and thought I would catch up with her at the ferry port to Ocracoke, I was wrong, she must have caught the ferry before me.

Another cyclist - Loo, a New Yorker, who cycled from Charleston and was going to Richmond.

Pic on the ferry ride
Once we had disembarked from the 45 minute ferry ride, I had another 13 miles to Ocracoke village. the road was a monotonous straight level road with swamps and the bay on one side and dunes and beach on the other. I cycled around looking for a place to eat because I hadn't eaten anything substantial in over 24 hours and I had cycled about 48 miles. I came across a modern me looking restaurant with a wooden deck and chrome banisters and got talking to 3 middle aged people, two ladies and a gentleman. They had moved here recently from New Jersey. He did a lot of cycling around the USA and Italy and owned 11 bicycles. We chatted a while then they left. I was about to ride around looking for a place to stay but I saw my rear tire was flat again so I simply stayed in the campsite a few 100 meters away.
