I hit the road at 7.30 a.m. cycling on to Rodanthe, about 15 miles. There was I long high bridge that I had to travel, fortunately there was not a lot of traffic. I attacked it with everything I had, the sooner I could get over it the better, coming down the bridge I was hitting high speeds but it beat climbing the steep gradient. I stopped on the beach where there were several fisherman. It was cloudy with the sun showing it's pretty face every so often. I chatted to Mr Shuller who had been going there every year for a month at a time for the last 20 years. He was 78 balding with grey on the side and blue blue eyes. He wore a beige cap, he told me he was from German extraction, I said he looked a bit like Field Marshall Rommel. He caught 2 fish ,one was a flander, it had 2 eyes on one side, which was strange, he reckons it's the best tasting fish EVER.
I moved on a few more miles and stopped at another pizza place, guess I like pizza. On leaving I saw my rear tire was flat again. I went to a place where they hire out bikes andasked if they could pump it up. I found the nearest coffee/ internet shop, for $3.50 I got myself an americano. I came out of the shop to find my tire was as flat as a pancake. I fixed it on the verge of the road with my last patch, it seemed to hold.
I came across another tourer Addison, he had travelled from Montreal and was heading for Key West, he told me there was a camp site for $20 down the road. I met a lovely couple there Jack and Laurie from Oregan, they were also on their way to Key West.
It was a beautiful setting looking onto the bayside with the sun setting. Jack invited me for tea, they were nurses that had left their job to cycle around the world for the next 6 years.
