I woke up and set off at 4 p.m. towards Fredericksburg about 16 miles away from where I camped.
Fredericksburg was named after the Prince of Wales son of George II. The first building erected was a fort in 1676. It became a major confederate port during the days when the river was strong and wide.
I past Stafford and the County Court House on route. (see pic to the left)

A typical house in that area.

As I crossed the bridge 16 miles later I was elated to see the Rappahanock River where I swam and rested my weary and painful body on the sandy river bank. This river was once used to transport imports and exports.
I met an interesting knowledgeable couple Joe Price and Sandra Murray. Joe kindly gave me a pair of new river shoes which came in handy. Sandra is originally from Canada but proud of her Scottish heritage just like me. She sang some lyrics of a gaelic song for me which was beautiful. Joe was a retired Lt. Colonel ( I now refer to him as Commandant) in the Air force and is a musician in the Fredericksburg Philharmonic Orchestra. I will be looking forward to seeing more of them in the near future.

Downtown Caroline Street, I sat outside watching the world go by enjoying much needed food at 909 Saloon,a Reggae Restaurant and Bar . Whilst I can't honestly recommend their cheesy noodles and toasted avocado and beef sandwich, the vibe was good. I guess the owner likes Bob Marley.
I can't say I agree much with the lyrics Marley sang, because it was a lot to do with Rastaferianism, in worship to a man called Heilie Selassie- Emperor of Ethiopia. Who was a Coptic Christian all his life although his title was;
"His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah,King of Kings of Ethiopia, Elect of God" He claimed to be from the line Queen Sheba and King Solomon. The Rastafari Movement which was established in Jamaica saw him as the messiah returned incarnate.

The walls of 909 Saloon were plastered with Bob Marley and a bit of a British influence with the Union Jack, Mick Jagger, John Lennon and the Beatles.
After dinner I made camp at the river bank again.
